Ohhh lard. I can’t even begin to tell you how badly I miss Caractère de Cochon. Located in Le Marais right next to the Marché des Enfants Rouges, Caractère de Cochon is a small boutique devoted to all things ham. The shop owner, Solo has done an incredible job curating his shop with every inch of the store’s space covered in ham. Jambon and sausages dangle from the ceiling and the walls lined with an endless selection of cured meats, pâtes, terrines and antipasti. It’s amazing.
Our homie, Julien of Fricote Magazine put us on this spot. We literally went HAM and sampled Solo’s finest cuts and his delicious sandwiches. His jambon beurre sandwiches are available throughout the day for €5. Made to order, Solo gives you a choice of bread, butter and ham. Choose between different hams flavored with mirabelles, black chanterelle mushrooms and rosemary. My favorite was the truffle flavored mortadella (bologna). I barely skimmed the surface of Solo’s shop, but I will definitely be back!
